The University of New South Wales
UNSW Institute of Languages Sydney Australia

Study tours

The Institute offers a study tour program for student groups from universities, educational recruitment consultancies, education departments and other organisations. Programs are arranged for general English, and English for specific purposes with a focus on teaching, business, law or medicine. The Institute is also able to structure a program to suit the specific needs of any interested group.

Sample Programs

These sample programs involve a General English syllabus, of 20 hours per week. The duration of the programs normally ranges from two to four weeks. The programs aim at developing communicative competence as well as promoting cross cultural awareness within the Australian context.

Students will be taught at the Randwick or Kensington campus of the university as a closed group, although groups mixed in with regular international students are also possible if they fit well with the Institute's term dates.

Homestay accommodation is available for students and staff participating in the study tour programs. This involves living with an Australian family. Breakfast and evening dinner can be provided on Monday to Friday. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be provided on Saturday and Sunday. Family accommodation of this type contributes to the linguistic and cultural learning experience undertaken by the course participants. Accommodation is handled and difficulties resolved by the Institute's full-time Accommodation Officer. The Institute can sometimes arrange on-campus accommodation (January and February only) or hotel and hostel accommodation.

Security and Insurance
All participants should take out insurance prior to arrival in Australia. The university has its own security system and the campus is under 24 hour security surveillance as well as patrolled and monitored. In addition, there are help line facilities and an emergency number (6666) to ring. In case of emergency, when they are on campus, students should seek help from their teachers and when they are at home, from their homestay parents who will instigate appropriate action.
