English for migrants English for migrants courses are funded by the Australian Government, Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) through the Adult Migrant English Program ( AMEP). There are no course fees for DIAC-eligible students.
Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP)
You may be eligible to learn English with the AMEP if you are:
The AMEP allows you to study English at an approved educational institution for up to 510 hours, or until you reach a functional English level - whichever comes first. You are required to enrol for classes within three months of arriving in Australia, and to commence classes within one year. The UNSW Institute of Languages offers a range of practical English courses for migrants who wish to improve and enhance their English language and communications skills. High quality experienced teaching staff, up to date study facilities and a friendly, co-operative atmosphere generate an environment that recently arrived migrant students appreciate and enjoy.
AMEP courses conducted by the Institute present you with the opportunity to develop and refine your English language skills as you gain newfound confidence and proficiency in a supportive class environment. What our English courses offer you The English courses are offered as part of the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) to help you improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills for life in Australia. These courses are based on the NSW AMES Certificates in Spoken and Written English curriculum framework, and are offered at three levels: Level 1 (Beginners), Level 2 (Post Beginners – Low Intermediate) and Level 3 (Intermediate - Upper Intermediate). You can choose from General English, Vocational English and English for Study purposes.
Classes are offered full-time or part-time, in the day or in the evening. On completion of your study you may be awarded a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment or Certificate in Spoken and Written English. If you are not able to come to class, there are also other AMEP study options for you to study by distance or at home.Course Fees There are no course fees for Levels 1, 2, and 3 for migrants who are eligible for the AMEP. However, fee paying places are offered in all courses to those students who are not AMEP eligible, if there is a place available.
