Tertiary Orientation Program (TOP)

TOP provides students with a solid start to their university studies, helping make the transition to university a comfortable experience. This program is for all international students who have passed their university entry English requirements and who have a full offer to UNSW. It is offered twice annually, in the five week term before UNSW Session 1 or Session 2 starts and so is available only in January-February and June- July.

This program is for students who would like extra familiarisation with orientation to UNSW and consolidation of skills in their academic English. It aims to help students prepare realistically for their new study experience awaiting them at UNSW.

It provides tuition in:

  • Orientation & adjustment to the Australian academic environment at UNSW
  • Study skills
  • Research and library skills
  • Critical evaluation skills
  • Advanced reading skills

At the successful completion of the course students will receive a UNSW Institute of Languages certificate at a graduation ceremony.

Homestay placement fee AUD$240
(plus an additional AUD$100 applicable for bookings less than 10 days notice)

Airport pickup AUD$145
Board under 18yrs (4 weeks) AUD$400 Setup charge plus AUD$10 per week monitoring until student reaches 18 years of age PLUS accommodation fees.

Assessment & Certificates for Academic English Levels 1, 2, 3, UEEC, TOP and Test Preparation Courses

Final course marks are based on:
  • Seminar Presentation or speaking tasks
  • Essay / Writing tasks
  • Tests during and at the end of the course
  • Participation in class
  • Progress to a higher level is subject to course results

At the successful completion of a course or series of courses, students will receive a UNSW Institute of Languages certificate at a graduation ceremony. A certificate of attendance will also be given.
