English for Law

What we offer

UNSW Institute of Languages offers English for Law, an interactive 5 -20 week course designed to give students the experience and the written and spoken English skills necessary to communicate effectively with clients and professionals in a legal environment.

This course is designed for upper-intermediate to advanced-level students who have a background in Law. It is ideal for students nearing completion of their degree or for legal professionals seeking to expand their English proficiency.

English for Law focuses on developing language skills and prepares students for the International Legal English Certificate (ILEC) Exam, a Cambridge qualification. The course covers the areas of speaking, listening, writing and reading, while improving students' ability to function in an English-speaking law environment.

Students may also elect to incorporate an internship with a local Sydney-based law firm after completing their English for Law study. Students wishing to complete the internship component require an IELTS proficiency of 5.5 for placement. Further details are available by contacting our Student Services team.
