English for Medical/Health ProfessionalsWhy study English for Medical/Health Professionals with us?
English for Medical/Health Professionals courses are suitable for overseas-trained health professionals including dentists, doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other medical practitioners. The courses are suitable for students who need to study English in a medical context to improve their communication skills to pass the Australian Medical Council's Occupational English Test (OET) and to ultimately achieve professional registration and practice in Australia.
Our English for Medical/Health Professionals Courses focus on developing reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in the Australian medical context, including preparation for the OET. Students are also given an introduction to the IELTS examination in Week 6 of this 10 week course, as the IELTS examination is recognised by most Medical Assessing Authorities in Australia.
Students learn to write referral letters, and develop an understanding of appropriate functional language to manage taking patient histories. Practice in 'mock' OET examinations is conducted regularly throughout the course. Courses are available full-time, part-time, day or evening. Who administers the OET Test? The OET is administered by the OET Centre in Melbourne. For more information about the test, including test dates and booking for a test contact the OET Centre, www.occupationalenglishtest.org.
