Frequently asked questionsAm I an International Student?
International Students - If you DO NOT have Australian or New Zealand Citizenship or full Permanent Residence status in Australia, then you are considered an International student.
Local Students - If you have Australian or New Zealand Citizenship or have full Permanent Residence status of Australia then you will apply as a local student - even if your schooling has been completed outside of Australia. Dual citizenship - If you have dual citizenship including Australian or New Zealand citizenship then you must apply as a local student - even if your schooling has been completed outside of Australia. What is the relationship between UNSW Institute of Languages and the University of New South Wales (UNSW)? The UNSW Institute of Languages is an education group of UNSW Global, a wholly-owned enterprise of the UNSW. The UNSW Institute of Languages offers courses that articulate with UNSW award courses. UNSW Institute of Languages courses are developed in consultation with each relevant UNSW faculty and the UNSW Faculty Board recommends the course to the UNSW Academic Board for articulation approval. The UNSW executive is represented on the UNSW Global executive board and the UNSW Global Academic Board is represented on the UNSW Institute of Languages Academic Board.
Can I use my UNSW Institute of Languages UEEC course results for entry to a UNSW course? Yes you can. Students obtaining satisfactory grades in their UEEC course can gain entry to UNSW courses. Students do not need to re-take an IELTS or similar test and will be admitted directly to UNSW. UEEC students must fulfil the UNSW academic admission requirements. Will I need to buy textbooks? In most cases, course material will be provided as part of the course fee.
Are my tuition fees secure at UNSW Institute of Languages? Yes. As soon as you pay your tuition fees they are held in a trust account administered by UNSW Global until you begin your course. Is UNSW Institute of Languages a private college? No. UNSW Institute of Languages is a business group of UNSW Global, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of UNSW. UNSW is a public (government-funded) Australian university. What if I am under 18 years of age?
Applicants who are under 18 years of age can study at the UNSW Institute of Languages however they will need to satisfy the Department of Immigration and Citizenship guardianship requirements. See full information for applicants under 18 years of age. Can I work while I am studying?
International students may apply for work rights on their student visa. Working rights permit students to work up to a maximum of 20 hours per week during term time.
