Am I a Local Student?
Local students do not require Student Visas to study in any of the courses at the Institute of Languages.
You are a local student if you are one of the following:
- Citizen of Australia or New Zealand
- Permanent resident of Australia
If you are migrant to Australia you may be eligible to learn English with the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) if you are:
- An adult (18 or older), and
- A migrant or refugee who is new to Australia, and
- In possession of a permanent visa, and
- Able to speak little or no English.
If you are one of the following:
- Citizen of another country except Australia or New Zealand
- Temporary resident of Australia
- Permanent resident of New Zealand

International Students enrolment information. To study more than 3 months in Australia, International Students require a Student Visa issued by the
Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).
