Language for Life - FAQWhat are the class sizes? The minimum class size is 10 and the maximum is 18. The average class size is 12. Do I get a Certificate of Attendance? To receive a Certificate of Attendance you must attend at least 80% of a course. Qantas Flight Attendants, Tour Guides or others unable to attend a part of the course will also receive a Certificate of Attendance on condition they inform the teacher in advance of their intended absence and complete all recommended self-study. Certificates are presented during the last lesson. How often should I attend class? To develop and maintain fluency in the language, you should attend every class and complete your allocated homework. If you cannot attend a particular class, please contact the office on either 61 2 9385 0374 or 61 2 9385 0375 and we will inform your teacher. If work commitments prevent you from attending part of the course, please inform your teacher, in advance if possible, to ensure you maintain a steady progress. In usual circumstances teachers will then be able to advise you on what areas of study you need to pursue. Under what circumstances will classes be rescheduled? We reschedule classes only in case of a teacher's illness or delay in the starting date. Please ask your teacher for details. Will classes run on public holidays? Summer Intensive Program: Classes will not run on public holidays. Part-Time Evening Program: There will be no class held on public holidays but the lessons are rescheduled. I've lost my Certificate, can I get a replacement? If you require a replacement Certificate, please contact the Modern Languages Administration Officer at 61 2 9385 0374. A AUD$50 charge will apply. Certificates are not available for courses completed more than three years ago. Is there any exams or assessment with my course? There are no formal exams during the course, but if you require an assessment of your proficiency level, please contact the Head of Modern Languages. Is there a feedback facility? Your feedback is valuable to us. If you have any observations about your class, please feel free to discuss these points of interest with your teacher, with the Modern Languages Administration Officer or with the Head of Department. We also encourage students to give us feedback on our courses either via the Course Feedback Form which is distributed in class during the course and at the end of the course or via email modern.languages@unsw.edu.au, telephone 61 2 9385 0374 facsimile 61 2 9399 5420. Is there wheelchair access or special needs facilities? Please contact our office for more information on access to the classrooms. Is there Parking? Free parking is possible in King Street and other neighbouring streets. If you have a UNSW parking permit you may park on campus. If you don't have a permit, you may park in a "Pay & Display 2P" ticket bay or in the "All Day Pay & Display" parking areas.
