The NAATI Test Prepataion Course - Translation is offered four times a year in January, February, May and August, while the Interpreting Courses is offered in intensive mode only in April each year for Mandarin candidates only. The Interpreting course reflects the test tasks in the new NAATI test format.

What is the difference between Translation and Interpreting?*
Translation refers to the transfer of written language from one language into another.
Interpreting refers to the rendering of spoken language from one language into another.
For more information on the NAATI test please visit www.naati.com.au.

Who are the NAATI Test Preparation Courses for?
The Translation Courses will assist you in developing translation skills in English and/or in the other language, and will prepare you for the Professional level test.

The Interpreting Courses will be language specific and assist you in preparing for the Paraprofessional or Professional level tests.

These courses are not intended to provide further language training in either English or in the LOTE (Language Other Than English e.g. Chinese) but assumes that candidates have an excellent knowledge of both languages.

These courses are also for people who have been unsuccessful in a NAATI Test, and who wish to further develop their skills.

What languages are available in the NAATI Translation Test Preparation Courses?
We offer the following languages: Arabic, Bosnian, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Macedonian, Malaysian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese.

Other languages may also be accommodated where possible. Please contact the Institute of Languages to confirm that your language is available.

What languages are available in the NAATI Interpreting Test Preparation Courses?
In 2008, we will only offer Mandarin Interpreting courses. Other languages may be available in the future depending on demand.

Are the courses accredited?
No, the courses are not accredited. After you complete a course you are still required to take the NAATI test.

Will I become an accredited translator or interpreter if I complete the NAATI Test Preparation Course?
No. This is a Test Preparation Course which means that after you complete the full course, you still need to take a NAATI Test with NAATI. For further information on the NAATI Tests please contact NAATI.
