The University of New South Wales, Institute of Languages (UNSWIL) offers English courses to recently arrived migrants and international students living in Australia whose first language is not English.
AMEP
The Migrant English Programme at UNSWIL offers English courses to recently arrived migrants and refugees as part of the national Adult Migrant English Programme (AMEP). The AMEP is funded by the Australian Commonwealth Government's Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).
Certificate 1, 2 and 3 courses
English courses offered as part of the AMEP are at 3 levels: Level 1 Beginner, Level 2 Post-Beginner and Level 3 Intermediate.
Courses are based on the NSW AMES Certificates in Spoken and Written English curriculum framework.
No course fees
There are no fees for Levels 1, 2, 3 courses for migrants who are eligible for the AMEP.*
Fee paying places are offered in all courses to those students who are not AMEP eligible, if there is a place available.
General English and Special Focus Courses
UNSWIL MEP offers General English courses at Levels 1, 2 and 3 and Special Focus courses at Level 3. Special Focus courses at Level 3 include:
Full time and part time
Courses are offered full time and part time, in the day or evening.
All full time courses are offered Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 1.30pm.
Part time course are offered at different times – see individual course information for details.
Students may enrol to study in blocks of 5 or 10 weeks.
There is continuous placement in courses.
Students may enrol in more than one course concurrently.
UNSWIL MEP also offers courses at Level 4 Advanced. All Level 4 courses are fee paying.
