Conditions of Enrolment

I acknowledge that I fully understand the following conditions of enrolment of the Language Teacher Education Course for which I wish to apply.

• I understand that completion of the certificate course requires me to be present in the daytime to complete observations, and practicum teaching, and at times also micro-teaching.
• I understand that I must attend at least 80% of scheduled course lectures and successfully complete all of the assessments within the course period to be eligible for the Certificate in TESOL award.
• I understand that if I do not satisfy the requirements of the first part of the course (microteaching, language analysis, or a minimum of 80% attendance) I may be asked to delay my practice teaching and redo these components in a subsequent course.  For delays in completion imposed by the department, no additional re-enrolment fee is charged.  There are also no additional fees if I am asked by the LTE staff to repeat components of part 1 of the course.
• I understand that the following may effect my certificate grade and may be grounds for dismissal from the course:
• Lack of punctuality on my part.
• Failure on my part to cooperate reasonably with other trainees, students and UNSW institute of Languages staff.

• I will accept as final all decisions made by the LTE Program staff in regards to admission to the courses, and certification and grading of components of the courses.
• I understand that course fees must be paid in full before starting LTE courses. The early bird discount ($150 for TESOL and LOTE, $110 for COTE and $30 for ILT) is available if the full course fee is paid a minimum of 4 weeks before the course commencement.
• If I am accepted to the course, I understand that the payment of the $100 non-refundable enrolment fee will hold my place in the next and one subsequent LTE course.
• I understand that I must select my course carefully. Full refunds of course fees for LTE courses, less the enrolment fee, are available if requests are received in writing or by email up to three weeks before the course commences.  If I withdraw, a $100 administration fee will apply. Requests for withdrawal received after three weeks before the course commences will incur a $500 administration fee.  There are no refunds once the course has commenced.  For the summer fulltime/distance program the course starting date is considered to be the date the distance component commences.
• I understand that credit notes are only granted in exceptional circumstances such as a serious and extended illness, and only if accompanied by a doctor's letter.
• I understand that if my credit card is declined or if I provided incorrect credit card details, UNSW Global reserves the right to charge me an additional $30 for Administration Fees.
• I understand that all the course requirements must be completed and all assignments submitted within 6 months of the first commencement date of my commencing the course.
• I understand that courses will start with a minimum of 10 enrolments. UNSW Global reserves the right to cancel courses as necessary if there are insufficient enrolments. No claim may be made by the student against UNSW Global in respect of any consequential or indirect loss or expense incurred as a result of class cancellations.
• I understand that if UNSW Global cancels a course, UNSW Global will refund my fees in full within 4 weeks. UNSW Global reserves the right to cancel or alter the details of any advertised course and refuse enrolment to any individual(s) as permitted by law.
• I have read and understand the ELICOS Teacher Qualification requirements, as shown below:
• The TESOL certificate course is recognised for casual, contract and permanent employment in NEAS accredited ELICOS colleges and TAFE, for certificate holders who also hold a bachelors degree or equivalent.  The LTE courses are not officially recognised by the NSW Department of Education for ESL work in primary and secondary schools.
• Holders of the certificate can apply for work in the AMES or AMEP (Adult migrant English Programs) if they also hold another formal teaching qualification (e.g. Graduate Diploma in Education) or if their first degree is a Bachelor of Education degree.
• People who do not have a prior university qualification can be accepted for the TESOL course but their employment opportunities in Australia are usually limited to:
• Non NEAS accredited institutions (e.g. some business colleges)
• Casual work – usually study tours – conducted by accredited institutions
• Community colleges
• Neighbourhood centres
• Private teaching
• The requirements of overseas contexts vary widely.  Some countries require a tertiary qualification at Bachelor level degree in order to issue a work permit. For many other countries the certificate is all you need to work in the adult sector.  You should find out as much as you can about the requirements for the countries where you want to teach.  The certificate alone is unlikely to qualify you to work in government school systems.
• Completion of the certificate course requires you to be present in the daytime to complete observations, and practicum teaching.  If your circumstances change and you are unable to be present during the day, we will attempt to place you on an evening program but there may be significant delays.
