UNSW Institute of Languages designs customised language proficiency tests to suit the needs of different organisations. Tests are available in over 70 languages, including English, and are specifically tailored for corporate clients or government agencies who wish to have the language skills of employees or prospective employees assessed and accredited.
We respond to the specific needs of corporations and government departments at very short notice whilst delivering a service of the highest quality. This is due to our expertise in the field of testing, a bank of qualified and trained language assessors Australia-wide and an extensive bank of test frameworks and assessment scales. An additional feature is that the Institute of Languages' tests offer a continuous scale of language proficiency levels, which enables test candidates and prospective employers to interpret the test results in a meaningful way.

- Centrelink Language Proficiency Tests assessing language skills for more than 450 sites across Australia
- Language Aide Proficiency Test for Councils for NSW Local Government Councils, designed to assess employees’ ability to communicate with customers in languages other than English (LOTE).
- Foreign Language Tour Guiding Language Proficiency Test for Sydney Opera House, to assess the proficiency level of tour guides or prospective tour guides.
- SBS Radio Language Proficiency Test designed in conjunction with SBS Radio to assess the language proficiency of radio broadcasters in languages other than English.
- Community Languages Teachers Test (CLTT) designed for NSW Department of Education and Training to identify the language proficiency level of teachers to gain permanent employment in NSW Government schools.
- Professional English Assessment Test (PEAT) available to overseas trained teachers from language backgrounds other than English. The test is only open to candidates whose qualifications have first been recognized by the NSW Department of Education and Training (NSW DET) and who are required to demonstrate their English language skills.
- Multilingual Language Accreditation Test (Work and Income Contact Centre) for the New Zealand Ministry of Social Development
- Bilingual Competency Tests - for those wishing to show proof of their language skills for employment purposes.
- QANTAS Airways/Jetstar Test for people interested in becoming Flight Attendants with QANTAS/ Jetstar and seeking accreditation in a language other than English (LOTE).
- Community Languages Allowance Scheme (CLAS) Test for the Community Relations Commission for a Multicultural NSW (CRC).
- Tour Guides Test tour guides seeking accreditation in a language other than English (LOTE). UNSW Institute of Languages conducts language tests for tour guidesin over 40 languages
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) UNSW Institute of Languages is an approved IELTS testing centre for the IELTS test which is a globally recognised English language proficiency assessment.
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) UNSW Institute of Languages administers the TOEFL test in the approved TOEFL testing centre at UNSW. TOEFL is a globally recognised English language proficiency assessment.
- Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) This is a test of English proficiency relating to work situations such as businesses, hotels, hospitals, restaurants, conventions, commerce and industry and is recognised by thousands of companies. UNSW Institute of Languages is Sydney’s Public Testing Centre for TOEIC.
